Nuclear fusion is the result of two atoms interacting in such a way that they join
together and create a heavier element. In the process, a huge quantity of energy is released. This process is thought to be the primary source of energy production in our closest star, the sun. Typically, for this process to take place extremely high temperatures are required -- in the range of millions of degrees.
Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR) Cold fusion is the name given to a form of nuclear fusion that does not require such extremely high temperatures. In fact,
LENR reactions can take place at temperatures as low as several hundred degrees Celsius (C). The reduced temperature range of
LENR reactions dramatically lowers the input energy required to trigger fusion between atoms.
Hence it is also called "cold" fusion, in contrast to the
"hot" fusion associated with reactions on the sun.
In addition to taking place at far lower temperatures, LENR has many real world advantages that make it much more practical for energy production than hot fusion. During many types of
LENR reactions, there is little radiation produced (what is produced can be easily shielded), and no nuclear waste produced. This is unlike hot fusion and conventional fission (atom splitting) technology, which can require radioactive elements as fuel, produce high levels of radiation, and leave nuclear waste as a byproduct.
Andrea Rossi's E-Cat (Energy Catalyzer) utilizes a form of LENR in which nickel atoms fuse with atoms of hydrogen, with the help of proprietary catalysts. The
LENR process in the E-Cat consumes little fuel, utilizes no radioactive materials, produces little radiation, and emits no form of pollution.
Although there have been multiple LENR technologies in development for some time, the E-Cat
LENR technology represents the first that is capable of producing highly practical quantities of output. It represents a revolutionary "green" technology that holds the potential -- once fully developed and commercialized -- of reducing the cost of energy by one hundred fold, or more.
Launching the "Cold Fusion" Century

The denigration of the phrase "cold fusion" has little to do with science
but is largely a function of politics that resemble the dogmatic resistance to
Galileo in the 1600s.
One of the good agendas I see Rossi's accomplishments furthering is
vindicating -- through product in the marketplace -- "cold fusion" that the politics of science has renounced all these years, to illustrate how barbaric even modern science can be.
Cold fusion isn't the only new discovery that academia has been resisting. They also fight against zero point energy, water for fuel, magnet motors, electromagnetic overunity.
Once people realize that modern science is just as prone to dogma, and that they have been so wrong about cold fusion, their minds will open to wonder what other things modern science has said is "junk science" that also might actually hold out great promise for solving our energy and other problems.
That is why I suggested the slogan: "Launching the cold fusion century." I don't think we should shy away from the phrase "cold fusion", but we should embrace it boldly, like a wife who has been put down by her husband for years for having "silly spiritual gifts" which actually are phenomenal gifts, who finally asserts herself and comes into her own and embraces her gifts in bold defiance of her oppressive husband, even to the point of divorce if necessary.
